KONTAKT vs.ESX24mkii
KONTAKT rocks so good that emagic and there users seem to be shaken by the features to finaly come to the virtuel desktop, i had been slammed, slandered and removed from posts when i mention why the esx24mkii does not time stretch and tune yet? What kind of company is emagic when they claim to provide un compromisable features to set revelutionary standards when some of there manual wrriters and translaters at the logic forums snap to competitors surprising developements, im not surprised at NI at all. So i post here to hear what more honest users would have to say about emagics disspointing esx24mkii and what they rather have as features, one member did speak out at the logic forums and a great idea would be that a on/off swicth between time stretch and expansion to not allow the esx24mkii to hog up memory, and that would be acceptable if thats why emagic excused this feature for.. but for me either way, a sampler should record, lay out (keyboard) time/stretch and pitch correct samples at your desire or just buy a plug sound to do the rest. And pelase let not forget, a nice more tolerant and flexible staff and better graphics helps, after all we evolved now from the stone ages. -------------------- HARDWARE---> APPLE G4, 450MP, 520MB, 4x80Gigata's w/accord pci ata card, 2x15"apple cinema flatpanels with additional radeon (mac eddition)-Powerd a dr.bott Diviator.OS---> OS9.2/OS X.1.1.5.. I'm not surprised at the reaction! All of the audio editing features of logic can be brought to bare upon audio used either in the Exs or in the usual tracking/mixing environment in the same fashion -including timestretching, repitching, processing, looping. enveloping, filtering, 127 depths of velocity switching, multiple outs ...etc ..etc..
Are you using the Exs 'P' 24 or the Exs24 inside logic audio? They are two very different bits of kit?! I don't think many logic users are terribly shaken, I prefer the sample accurate timing and neat project integration. I shan't post again here as this topic neither asks for advice, or offers a sensible and informed comparison or argument. PS. Exs streams from disk if you like, so it doesn't take all your memory. NI Kontact is no doubt smart given their rep but you miss the point of all the really useful features of the exs and the amazing timing/workflow smoothing for big projects. |

I don't own the EXS but I do have Kontakt. Kontakt is fine except for two important things in my opinion...
1-lots of bugs (display can get weird; the drag&drop feature often doesn't work and you'll have to create a new module/instrument in order to use a new sample,...), 2-the fact that it uses RAM can be a drag if you don't have enough of it. In my case I have 512, and I keep hitting the "Memory too low" message when using Kontakt along with my audio soft... The only solution I have is to buy more RAM... )-: I also use Reason and PlugSounds and almost never get that kind of limitation... Here's for my opinion... -------------------- I will not call my teacher "Hot Cakes''...I will not call my teacher "Hot Cakes''...I will not call my teacher "Hot Cakes''...I will not call my teacher "Hot Cakes''...I will not call my teacher "Hot Cakes''...I will not call my teacher "Hot Cakes''...

It may just be me but I am not a big fan of realtime time-stretching. Memory consumption (as people mentioned) is one thing. Also I don't like the idea of relying on a wav file which in reality sounds different from what I hear.
Time-stretching can be a really really good feature for DJ's and stuff doing realtime mixing. On the contrary, EXS in my opinion is a sampler aimed at integrating a sample sound into the mix in a user-friendly manner. For my mix, I (and probably many other people) like to use a quality wave file sampled at the precise BPM and EXS is just the tool for such purpose. |

ESX24 GUI is horrible.... halion (and kontact) is much easier...... you can edit waves files and make keyzones so much easier then in esx24.... thats its only draw back.

after being frustrated with an EMU ESI2000 hardware sampler that wasn't Mac friendly... the ESX24 was like heaven for me. Time stretching is no big deal as if I want to loop things... I use Recycle and then pull back into ESX24 to loop with midi. I am perfectly happy with that arrangment. and setting keyzones seems really easy to me compared to hardware samplers too. I really can't seem to think of anything that would make the ESX24 better for myself.

Synthetic Tone ?
So you actualy need time stretching more then me here... Ok so you rather use a 3rd party app and take the time to stretch or slice it there, i think thats longer, waste of time and especialy interupting a creative moment, also memory consuming since if the (option) per esx24 (and i said esx24 not esxp24) could have it as a option... And for the wise guy that made the first post here before that again denied and sidetracked that the esx24 SUCKS when it comes to loading the samples during logics booting, how much deos emagic pay you? excuse me if i mistaken i will agree if users here are that un profesional or do not realy know the benefits of time stretching or even having the access to a 80 GIG akai esx converted libarry you can indeed fool everyone by stating i might use the esx24 exted of a esxp24, but again obviosly its clear i USE A ESX24 cuase i have so many cds i converted in the studios right? AGAIN time stretching as a option in the esx24 or kontatk is a very creative tool, im sure emagic and NI is working to improve it, but epmagic has gotten there ass KICKED so much that they dont even support VST, infact they dont want to support it cuase of KONTAKT entirely, but does NI run around crying about hackers or competition as if they are doomed , no!!! becuase they did not sell to apple.. anyway other then time stretch Faster conversion, streaming, better interface and wave, keyboard and layout vews would help.. -------------------- HARDWARE---> APPLE G4, 450MP, 520MB, 4x80Gigata's w/accord pci ata card, 2x15"apple cinema flatpanels with additional radeon (mac eddition)-Powerd a dr.bott Diviator.OS---> OS9.2/OS X.1.1.5.. Would Kontakt work alright with say, an oxygen8 and DP or Protools?

QUOTE but epmagic has gotten there ass KICKED so much that they dont even support VST, infact they dont want to support it cuase of KONTAKT entirely, but does NI run around crying about hackers or competition as if they are doomed , no!!! becuase they did not sell to apple.. Umm.. NI has every plan to support the AU format for all their plugins (all new releases will support the format out of the gate, and conversions of older plugins will occur later). Emagic's decision to abandon VST has more to do with poor host system documentation form Steinberg then fear of competition with Native. And, um.. yes, Native does run around crying about hackers. All software developers do. |
