I quite agree with you Midiwife. Self-supporting users of technology will actually save an organisation both time and money, especially schools, where I am based. If you take a little bit of time a non-technician can easily do tech support, especailly on the Mac Classic. OSX's BSD Unix core is certainly harder to maintain (ie more time and more money) but less than a Windows environment. I have run a Mac network without any kind of formal training and also tried to understand and manage a single Windows PC in a previous job. Aaahh: Registries and DLLs and viruses! Having said that XP _is_ very good.
And thanks webmaster but using Disk Utility to repair permissions was the first thing I did. Thanks anyway.
