I suggest getting a USB or firewire interface. the internal sound is 16bit, most audio interfaces are 24bit. it woud give you better headroom. The line in is a mini-plug, an audio interface may have a preamp, and xlr connectors with phantom power. otherwise you wil be hangin adaptors off the mini-plug. Depending on your needs you can find an interface with 2-4 inputs fairly cheap. You just have to decide what your budget is. Be aware that Gargeband cannot trigger outboard midi gear, it has it's own softsynths and sample player. Also for detailed work you would probaly want a product like Logic , or Digital Performer. Also invest in an external firewire 7200rpm/8MB cache drive for your audio files.
