While I applaud NI for this decision, I would applaud a lot louder and longer if they would EVER get Reaktor Session to work under OS X. It's just vaporware that I own. Hopefully their other products are faring better.

For the record, Kontakt 1.5 + have -serious- problems running under OSX. I have email from support at NI saying, yes, if you want stability and modicum of modulation, use OS 9. Unbelievable! I sent support the same quote used here to bolster my arguement that they have not implimented OSX well at all. In fact, the support person suggested that all of us who use an Apple laptop know in our hearts that PCs are better and he suggested the solution to my problems with Kontakt be solved with either OS9 or buying a PC! He said this was the head developer's reaction to my complaints.

Be forewarned...

John

I find these comments troubling, though I want to believe you got an exception with the NI tech support, and not a rule.

It wouldn't be consistent with all of NI's efforts to promote an OS X lineup.

On the other hand, if Kontakt is not delivering, then it's not delivering. I can varify limited use with Reaktor Session in OS X, stil, after many months.

They are troubling responses... a month ago I was requested to send a problem nki with sample for them to dissect. Support agreed there was a problem and sent to nki to the "beta team." They looked at it and their head "developer" (support's words) is the one who said my 1 gig TiBook as too slow under OSX to use reverb and time stretching at the same time. I sent back a long and detailed response pointing out the absurdity of this position in light of the kinds of programs now working fine with such a computer and OSX. I hope to talk with someone more responsible higher up in NI's structure. Unless I get some real support from them I will post the whole email sequence and nki/sample on my website for the world to see.

troubling responses to say the least!
even if NI would not port to OSX only, that must be the lamest support answers i have heard. "get a pc" - is that a respected answer from a lead developer team's head?
what up NI? lost your sense of direction?

Actually it's Digidesign who's heading customers in support talk to go PC (reports in the French forum). NI is like many developpers working hard on issues but always remember it's a small team and it's a whole lot of development.

Now you've been answered by someone who should have thought longer before answering.

I agree that the support person may not have said the best things for NI's reputation, but never the less, the answer is the same: Kontakt has big problems with OSX. NI advertises one thing and delivers another. This more important than which words were chosen by the staff.

i would definetely like to hear more about digidesign's PC moves and plans for the future, being one of the the leading mac hardware/software companies.
[ and being all over apple's site ]
flea, yes u r right. it says a lot about a company. and if they have a small support team, how can they say such un-logical things?
the worst thing is that, like you say, NI says one thing and does another. you want to trust your pro-audio company...

lets hear some more digi stories from our french friends...

Mhmm… methinks it's time to email them and ask the question directly… be polite (they are cool people and they listen, I can tell you, they may have already read this thread) and point this thread (they know us wink.gif

I'm sure you'll have an answer more interesting, I hope so… And I'll be glad to see it here cool.gif If they need some superior developer to help them to give the push, we know someone who can.

For Digi… well, as I said, support staff told a pro in the FR forums to switch to PCs if he wanted to have a working platform. We are still trying to recover from this VERY interesting answer… The known issues right now are in the pinned thread on MBoxes (i'm not talking about old issues running for years… I'm no PT user so I won't tread on this stuff)
