a big thing in my life is choosing weather to record a band's rhythm tracks together....or individually. i record rhythm tracks fist....always. but a lot of people think its better to record drums first, then everything individually on top of that. i don't agree, because you get a much better recording in unison as far as timing and tighness goes. you feed off eachother, and stay with eachother when you record together, and just overdub solos, vocals, etc. what are your thoughts? don't like 99% of all studios record rhythm tracks together?

Depends on the studio and the musicians and the producer I'd say. ( and the music )
To find out what you like best, try both. Cheers: Dixiechicken -------------------- ==================

do it together...please!! there's enough 'disconnected' music out there now as it is. Music is about musicians connecting with musicians (technically and emotionally) and then communicating the result to the listener. I'm a guitar player and to me there is no substitute for being able to look in the drummer's eye as we lead into the chorus or watch the bass player's fingers as he does a run coming out of the bridge. I always feel something lacking when I participate in a 'piece by piece' recording.
my 2 cents worth.....a 1, a 2, a 1 2 3 4. |
