Hi all,
I've got a G4 powerbook running OS9.2.2 and a Yamaha P200 digital piano. A couple of months ago I decided to try and connect the 2 and so I bought myself a Midiman mididsport 2x2 interface. all OK so far... Then came the difficulties of choosing software. I downladed Protools free and got totally scared off the whole idea of making computer music! But now I'm back and although I've read various posts and tutorials I'm still not sure where to go from here. Basically, what I'd like to do is be able to play my piano and edit what I've played on the mac. I'd like to create multiple tracks (although I'll only be recording one at a time) and I'd like to be have convincing sounding samples/voices for playback -- I don't consider the Quicktime GM sounds to be very good! I'd also want a musical notation facility for editing and printing files. I realise that I'll probably have to buy software to fit my needs but I don't want to waste my money buying the wrong thing. I would prefer to try demo versions beforehand. thanks for your advice. paul |

Well, Logic might suit your needs well for what you want to do but unfortunately I don't think they have any demos. It is great for editing midi and will allow you to print score or write music by scoring the notes by hand. Check Emagic Website for more info.

There is NO demo of Logic…
Also, if you want to make extensive work in traditional notation, something like Finale maybe more approriate. Have a look to Digital Performer too along Logic (no more demo than logic btw, macmonkey do you know there's a HUGE french forum along this one? Have a look at Metro at: http://www.sagantech.biz/ . There's a light version and a demo version. I've been using it for a while and it's quite powerful (but has somehow a hard learning curve for more advanced functions).

Hi Macmonkey,
How about MicroLogic AV? It costs $79 and will get you into MIDI and audio recording. It's an entry level version of Logic. A lot of power for the price. OS9 only. |

thanks for the helpful info.
I'll check out the links... it sucks that Logic doesn't have a demo. As for the French forum, I'll stick to this one -- English is still my first language merci quand même lepetitmartien thanks again mac |
