OK, I am stuck. ( and a newbie )

i got all excited and downloaded Magical 8 bit plug, SupaTrigga which left on my desk top
folders with a "SupaTrigga.component" and "Magical8bitplug.compoment" in them.

Can someone please explain (or send a link to a thread to explain) how i can

1. Open these files ( i am unable to as they are now )
2. Put them in a place where i can use with Ableton live

What exactly is a "component" file?

any insight to these mysteries would be GREATLY appreciated

Component files are to be placed in Library>Audio>Plug-Ins>Components. They will then show up in whatever application (Garageband, etc.) you are using.

i have done the above(created a plug ins folder in audio) but the plug in still appears grayed out, and does not show up in Live.

when i click on the icon, it asks me which application i would like to use to open it, when i go to garage band it is grayed out as well, and wont let me select it.

any insight to this would be most helpful

thank you

In which Library folder are they?

It should be in your root Library folder (the one right on the first level of your system hard drive). Have you left them into their personal folder? If so, don't.

Have you tried rescan the plug ins in Live?
Go to preferences -> Plug-in - Re-scan.

You shouldn't have to actually create a folder for your plugins. Let's start from the beginning....click on Macintosh HD icon then Library, then Audio, then Plug Ins & THEN drag your folders to he Component Folder (you will also see the VST folder as well...now you know where to put the VST ones as well when you download those).
