Hi
I just set up my system today (imac g5, presonus firebox, shure sm57 mic, using garageband). After initially working quite well, suddenly I have a problem with crackling/distortion through my mic. i don't really know how to troubleshoot this. The mic is fine, it sounds normal when using the firebox mixer, but then when i record a track on garageband or monitor it it is incredibly distorted. if the level is set too high, i can't find where it should be lowered (i have tried on the firebox itself, on the firebox mixer, and the garageband track volume is beyond my ability to control at this point). Sorry for the inchoate question. |

? solder joint in the microphone
is it XLR or 1/4 input also ? try noise gate in the track options Check all connections in the signal chain |

Thanks for your help. But wouldn't you know, I come back to it today and now it's fine again. I figured that since it was initially working fine that I must have accidentally changed some setting - however, when I exited garageband and reopened it, the problem was still there. Weird. I wonder if anyone has any idea why it happened, just in case it happens again. . .

I use a Shure 57 and a Shure 58 through a Tascam US-122
and also use Garageband(2) I have not experienced this scenario ? maybe a setting got changed by accident hard to say. Glad its working for you now! |
