There is PC software that will take pitched audio whether it be a voice singing or an instrument performing single notes and convert it to midi which can then be printed out in notation.
Does anyone know when similar software will be available for the Mac? Or if anyone is even working on this? Thank you in advance for any info you may have. |

Melodyne can take monophonic audio files and convert it to midi. You might have to play with it a little bit to get it right but I've done it and it works.

logic also has a feature to do this, though i has not worked spectacularly for me...
Also you could build something to do the trick in MaxMSP as well using 3rd party pitch tracking objects like fiddle~ or analyzer~ . -------------------- -Arvid •• Squish the Squid Productions, Modest Machine

And in OS 9 you have the Polyfractus Pitch2MIDI plug-in which will do it too. it's available exclusively on MacMusic, see the Software tracker.
All these things only work on monodic tunes, and are rather touchy. So don't expect too much anyway. Melodyne is certainly one of the most advanced. [EDIT] Well Melodyne is polyphonic now… (last news on it, at the AES last week) we'll see. DP4.6 also has an audio to midi converter. Like all of these things, results depends on the mono signal you send it.
