I'm just bought my first Ti-book.
Now i need an audio interface & off course a sequencer.
I'm thinking about the:

Motu 896 & DP-3
or
RME Multiface w/ Logic Audio (prob'gold)

What would you choose ?
I also have a P800 desktop so i also could use the RME for that if i buy the pci interface.

Thx for your help

(sea snake on the road map wink.gif

Well, before some start the fire, have you checked the threads concerning Tibooks and Ibooks…

After that, DP and Logic are both professionnal products, but with rather different (to say a bit) philosophy… Have you checked both to see wich one you seem to like better or are you coing out of the blue? cool.gif

Me again…

What do you want to make with these… the 896 is not an obligation, 828 can be adequate (96 KHz is mainly a marketing argument, especialy for amators -please, we won't argue upon 96 here, it'll confuse everything)

That'll save money also to by a good preamp if you want to record voices…

Also… logic gold doesn't exist anymore, it's entitled Logic 5 that 's all (cosmetic change of names) and it's the logic inside the Big Box paquage in promo until the end of august for about 300 € with some great stuff with (EXS 24 sampler, ES2 VA synth… check the news here for more info or the emagic site www.emagic.de) so you can have it quite cheap and RME makes great stuff (something for damann here wink.gif

Then there's still my first question… the philosophy…

lepe... you are not exactly correct on the Logic thing. Logic still has SILVER, GOLD, and PLATINUM even at version 5. Also, be warned that the Logic that comes with "BIG BOX" is SILVER. There are differences too. In theory... they are all the same app but the different levels unlock and allow for different features according to what you paid for. Actaully when you buy Logic... your buying the same app even if buying SILVER compared to someone buying PLATINUM but the dongle for each is different and allows access to only certain features. And if you do a comparison between the 3 different levels... you will see the differences. Go to www.emagic.de and there you will see how the different ones stack up.

I just went for Logic GOLD 4.8.1 and will get the upgrade to 5.0 GOLD as soon as its available (not shipping yet). I wanted GOLD because it will support 24bit recording as soon as 5.0 GOLD is released and it has enough features for my taste. I almost went with "BIG BOX" too but didn't think I would be happy with the SILVER Logic.

Ooops… I was thinking silver and I wrote gold…

Shouldn't answer at 5 in the morning wink.gif

It changes nothing to the fact you can update to a higher spec'd Logic if need be. rolleyes.gif

Hi,
I allready have bought the Ti book.
I'm thinking of dp3 cause i can buy a cheap upgrade when i buy the motu 896.
The reason why i would buy this is that i also have 8 preamps but that's about it.
Also somebody told me once that the quality of MAS is better than VST (not sure about that though)
I also heard of the Logic box, shame it is the exsp-24, not the exs 24.
I've checked the RMe site & they say you can get latency of 1.5 with my Tibook & the hammerfall-multiface. Sounds pretty good to me.
So you still can buy Logic Gold or not ?
Is there anybody who tried kontakt (pc off course, almost MAC cool.gif ) What is everybody using here ?
When i buy a gold or silver version, can i ever use it with the Logic control or is it just the Platinum.
I'm loosing it, geting crazy.........

1/Do you really need 8 pres?

one or 2 good ones separated from the interface won't be up the task (we don't know what you want to record)

2/The cheap upgrade you'll have it wwith the 828 too.

3/the big box, yes a shame it is, but upgrade path are available.

4/latency, a bit long to go all over again on it, there are threads that talk about here. RME has a good reputation, also one of the pros here use one wink.gif and seem pretty happy with (can't remmember the model though)(but I remember the pro laugh.gif

5/In the big box it's logic silver under its new name (logic audio 5), gold and platinium stay with the metal names.

6/Kontakt; I was at the booth next to NI at Frankfürt Messe, but didn't have time to check (BTW I'm not really in the virtual stuff, I DIG knobs wink.gif
I'm a small user of DP/UNity DS1, but unity is a bit of obligation with DP, as far as I know there's no other virtual sampler MAS compatible.

BTW be carefull, with OS X coming, a lot of things can change (plug in formats, audio engines…) and we need the releases of the X versions of Logic and DP to know a bit more about. pretty moving stuff.

7/I can't judge VST vs MAS for audio quality. But the fact that MOTU selects the people developing for MAS makes that there are less plugs in MAS, an overall much better quality. I don't say that VST plugs are c…p, just that there are some loads outside.

Also the big names, great quality plugs from TC, DUY etc. are all on each system. So it's not an issue (on samplers it is, DP is a bit alone with Unity or Session)

(now I should go to bed or I'll start to say stupid things again;)

Thx for your answer lepetitmartien.
The only reason why i want 8 pre's is for recording drums. I don't have an external mixer. I think i'll go for Logic cause they re the closest related to Apple now. Maybe there will be a cheap upgrade for Jaguar in the near future. Time will tell us.
Anybody using the 828 w Logic ?
