 Help!!! Mac Ibook, Os 9.04 And Digital Performer, Need help importing audio into iBook |

Hey there. I currently own a couple versions of Digital Performer, and I have the latest version but I use 2.7 because it has been working flawlessly with my studio MacIntosh.
I also have an iBook 366Mhz G3 laptop with 10GB hard disk space and 320MB of RAM. I want to turn it into a portable demo studio for when I'm on the road. I really only want it for basic low fidelity recording to document new compositions. Sort of a high-end dictaphone device, but one I can use to import into my recording studio Mac and DigiPerformer, if needed. I want to keep it as simple and as inexpensive as possible and I basically just need a way to record audio into the computer and into Digital Performer. The iBook does not have a mic/audio input jack, and I was told that the hip way to get audio into the laptop is by purchasing an adapter called the iMic, made by Griffin. Don't see why the iMic wouldn't work, but you still need to have a recording application on the iBook - and then select the iMic from within that program's prefs/control panel. What OS are you running on the iBook? If you're only doing single track stuff and running OSX, I would suggest Spark ME (its free) or if OS9, why not install your DP on the laptop -which would make importing into your studio Mac that much easier, no?

Thanks for your reply. I'm currently running OS 9.04 and was going to install DP on my iBook. I just wanted to make sure that iMic would work before I popped $$ for it. I don't know if you followed the link and read the specs, but the iMic is 24-bit and plugs into the USB port. The reason why I wasn't sure about it is because on all my other systems, I had to get "approved" and dedicated sound cards (which cost roughly ten times as much) in order to get audio into my DP. Any further thoughts?

The iMic works with the Apple Sound Manager, so you should be ok. Just bear in mind that while a cheap solution, the iMic doesn't have the best reputation for quality audio and reliability (try a search on this forum and you'll see plenty of discussion) - but for your purposes, it sounds appropriate. Anyway, try this link for more iMic info.
