Can anyone here help me with an error message I keep getting or direct me to a reputable forum that can provide assistance?

My iBook keeps giving me the following error message and then kicking me off of the internet: "A network error has occurred (-3155)".

I got this from apple's site:
Open Transport Error Codes:
Result code:kOTOutStateErr
Value: -3155
Meaning: The function was issued in the wrong sequence.

What does this mean and how do I make it stop? This is a recent development on my iBook running OS9.2.1, my G4 733 runs perfect with identical settings as far as I can tell. I am not mac illiterate however, I am no GURU either so please be extensive in your reply.

First, write down all your internet settings.

Next, one at a time, trash the preferences files for TCP/IP, Open Transport, and any other system based internet/network thing you can think of. That is, after you've trashed one see if you still get the problem. When you trash TCP/IP you'll have to reenter its settings.

Preferences files are common culprits in malfunctioning software.

Do you have fax software? If trashing prefs doesn't fix it, try turning that off (disabling the control panels and extensions).

Thanks BagHun for your reply. Unfortunately (I should have mentioned this earlier, sorry) I have already trashed the preferences for Open Transport and TCP/IP. The fax software extensions and control panels are turned off, I have a very stripped down set of extensions that I use.

Anything else I can try??

I appreciate the help.

Could you give us a show of the strip down (list of on/off extensions/control panels)?
If you have quicktime off, switch it on NOW! Since OS 9 it must be on all the time.

To list your extension etc. use the Apple sytem information utility in the apple menu.
