Hi everyone,
I recently bought Logic Express having moved up from Audio Hijack Pro and GarageBand...and I have a slight problem on my hands... I cannot get any sound from my speakers while playing sound in LE! What I am currently doing is converting some old vinyl records into AIFFs and have hooked up a turntable to Griffin's Powerwave through to my PB's USB port. I have tried other programs such as Audio Hijack and they can pick up the signal no problems. LE seems to record but I cannot alter the input level and when trying to play back the recorded vinyl there is no sound. I can bounce the track to AIFF and that plays fine in either the Finder or iTunes. Really weird. LE recognises the Powerwave as input and I have seen the same in the Audio MIDI Setup panel. I'm running MacOSX 10.3.8. I would be extremely grateful if anyone's got some tips for a novice! Thanks in advance! Regards, Nubben |

This might be a dumb question, but the audio region IS in an audio track, right?

Are the following tuned allright?
- System preferences/audio - apps/utilities/Audio MIDI Set Up - in Logic, in the audio menu, the interface set up If you can't hear audio in Logic that's the first thing to look after. Note that you must have the Powerwave as input, but also have an output path for the monitoring -------------------- Our Classifeds • Nos petites annonces • Terms Of Service / Conditions d'Utilisation • Forum Rules / Règles des Forums • MacMusic.Org & SETI@Home

Not to discount the value of LE, but Sound Studio, which came standard on my eMac G4, is an excellent program for vinyl to digital conversions - very easy just plug in the audio from your pre-amped turntable or pre-amp to the line-in jack and go. It even has a start/stop recording preset for audio and tape recordings!

I am having the same problems as many, I cant hear any output, and cant find anythng in the manual that explains simply what needs doing.
I have Evolution k/b 249c and Tascam US-122 into Powermac G4 Logic Express 7.0.1. on OS 10.3.9. I have upgraded from Logc Audio 6.3.1, which worked fine... but now on LE 7.0.1 I hear nothing, whatever settings I put on AMS etc. All I want to do initially is to play the tutorial song. I can see it playing but I hear nothing. Some clear simple help would be appreciated. Thanks |

Guys - I think you just need to go to the Audio page and select the checkbox for "Audio Input Monitoring"...
I hope this is right - Not sure - But it's a good first check... (I'm using Logic Pro so I'm not sure if that selection is in there) Also - If you have external interfaces - Go to: Applications/Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup... Check in there and see if your external interface is setup and selected as the primary output device... As for your input level - You are correct - Logic will not attenuate the input signal for recording... I believe you need to do this from an external source (?) (ie: a bus output on your mixer?)... That's how I control my input level into Logic Pro... Hope this helps... Riverdog -------------------- |

Thanks Riverdog, but it doesnt solve the problem sadly.
"I think you just need to go to the Audio page and select the checkbox for "Audio Input Monitoring"..." I dont see this page anywhere? Everything looks connected properly. "Check in there and see if your external interface is setup and selected as the primary output device..." Yes to all that. But I cant hear anything at all from Logic. I think a properly installed Logic (thats what Logic says I did) and Tutorial should just play, without days of head scratching I can see it looped and playing. I have tried every combination of audio a monkey could come up with, and no luck. Yet I can hear everything else off my computer no problem. The 'Logic' escapse me |

Hmmm....
Well are you trying to record THROUGH Logic? Or just play audio files you've already created? You may want to go to the Logic section of the Apple site and ask them... I got great responses with a question I had a few days ago... Sorry I couldn't help any further... Riverdog -------------------- |

Audio Preferences>Driver>? Have you put your Interface/soundcard in there - the Tascam US-122?
As for the first guy, are you using the internal soundcard? |

Whatever I did has worked... dont ask me what! On now to the real task, understanding how to work it all. I have ordered the Martin Sitter book and hope it makes music.
Thanks |
