Which Mac would be better for recording?  The two systems that I am comparing are: a new imac 700mHz,256MB RAM,40GB HD,DVD-CD/RW; or a G4 desktop 733mHz,128Mb RAM,40GB Hd,DVD-CD/RW.  I will be using a digi design Mbox to record, it hooks up through the usb port so I don't need to add a sound card.  Any advice on which computer would be better?  The imac is cheaper and I could use the extra money on a good quality mic so right now I'm favoring the imac, but any suggestions would be much appreciated.

The Imac will be ok but the desktop will give you a slight edge of performance and easy expandability…

Else the G4 have a promotion until July 7th (seems something new will be here then… what can it be wink.gif

Depend a bit also of what you want to do… now and in the future

Thanks for the info. I mostly just want to do basic recording, one track at a time. I do most of my mixing, effects, etc. on outboard gear so the only thing that I really need the computer for is recording the tracks and burning cd's. Will the better performance of the desktop be worth the extra money for what I want to do? Maybe I'll wait a couple of months and see what comes out.

At the moment the slight edge won't be of importance for you and what you want to do.

As lons as you don't need multiple screens, multiple HD (you have firewire anyway)…

As something is definitely brewig at Apple, interesting promotions will be here soon to clear the warehouses smile.gif check for that in june/begining of july to have an even better system for less money but maybe not an Imac.
