I have a G4 powerbook laptop w/ 512MB Ram. I'm new to mac recording--I want to do primarily midi, with some audio guitar and vocals. I want to use software-based midi instruments. Does anyone have suggestions/advice/experience regarding cubase sl versus logic's big box bundle?

They're pretty much the same. I like SX, but I'm currently waiting for my copy of Logic 6. From the reviews I've read, it's very nice. There are bouquets and brickbats for both programs, but Logic is now Apple-owned so if you're Mac-based that's one reason to maybe side with Logic. Nothing wrong with Cubase, though.

I'm sure you're aware, but the Big Box will save you at least $100. tongue.gif
While we're on the subject of money, don't forget about dropping more on audio & MIDI interfaces. Have a look through the Getting Started threads for info/advice/opinions.

Between the two, I'd say Digital Performer 4.
