Hi Folks,
Sorry if I have asked a question which has been asked a thousand times before....
I have a G3 266 on OS 8.6 with M Audio Audiophile 2496 soundcard and Logic Audio Silver which works fine. I just inherited a G4 450MhZ on OSX 10.3.9. It seems Logic Silver won't work on OSX. What do I do?? The new fangled Logic Express seems to be less powerful than the old Audio Silver since it has only 12 audio tracks etc. (Audio Silver has 24 audio tracks). Can I run Silver on my G4? Would I have to install OS 9. whatever? or is there other software which would equal the power of Logic Silver????
Thanks in advance, Davie

Hi Macmidiguy

Thanx for the info. Yes - I too feel that Apple should have allowed some price reduction for registered Logic users to upgrade - a wee bit of a reward for loyalty - particularly for the Mac users! You're gonna have to excuse my ignorance here - I am aware that many people record all audio onto a separate hard drive and that it is indeed the recommended method. I have never done this and only used the built-in HD to put everything on. (A measly 6GB HD on the G3). I now have a 27GB drive on the G4 and reckon I should invest in another drive. You say you have different OS's on these different drives. You're confusing me now! You also say that the HD you use for audio is a FireWire drive. Is this best or should I fit a HD inside the G4 similar to the one that it already has?
Also - if I install OS9 on my 27Gig drive, can I boot up ONLY on OS9 or will Panther still be running in some way - using up valuable memory?
I'm trying to find the most cost-effective way of moving this forward - even considered flogging the G3 complete with the Audiofile card and Logic Silver and moving up to Logic Express and getting a Delta 1010 card but I'd probably only get peanuts for it all and that Audiofile soundcard works really well. Fact is, the G3 works well with Silver too but only 6GB drive etc and a G4 sitting looking at me with nothing to do.
It looks like the best thing to do would be, as you say, get OS9, more memory and a second HD and put the Audoifile 2496 in the G4. Possible upgrade the soundcard to the Delta 1010 if I come into money....
