High,
I have a Pismo with 384 megs of RAM. I'm running Pather and i'm considering upgrading to Tiger. Would there be any benefit in running Tiger on a 400 mhz Pismo or would it just get bogged down? Thanks, JPW |

It'll be faster in OS 9 anyway…
Now tiger is supposed to be more efficient than panther on old computers, but as my G3 is out of order since december and i've still repaired it, I haven't been able to test it myself -------------------- Our Classifeds • Nos petites annonces • Terms Of Service / Conditions d'Utilisation • Forum Rules / Règles des Forums • MacMusic.Org & SETI@Home

I reckon you should move to Tiger; it'll feel faster. That's only a guess mind you - my Pismo has a G4 upgrade card and 640Mb ram, so not directly comparable, but it certainly feels snappier.
One oddity; System Profiler doesn't seem to recognise my internal soundcard? But everything works. |

I agree with the comment about OS9. I have another Pismo with the exact same configuration running OS9 and it ROCKS! Panther is stable and doing fine on my "office" machine covering Internet and administrative tasks. I've looked into this Tiger/Panther question a bit and the consensus regarding G3s with less than 512 megs of RAM isn't so cut and dried. I think i'll stay with OS9 for the time being. I have considered a RAM/processor upgrade. Maybe i'll go that way.
Thanks for the responses. JPW |

Yeah, Mac Daddy, it's like that. I just need to work on my ability to resist GAS. Advertising will drive you crazy. There's some amazing software coming out for the G5. I often have to stop and ask myself if my music will really 'improve' if i have the latest emulation of the Oxford EQ. The more i learn, the more i realise that it's the engineer and not the tools.

I would second the statement that Tiger feels quite a bit faster on a Pismo than Panther, yet I would suggest more memory.
BUT, the Pismo is most powerful if you use OS 9.2.2 |
