i have an ibook and use a griffin imic to input audio via the usb port.

lately, i have noticed an intermittent audible "pulse", isolated to the left channel, which happens about every 10 seconds.

it happens whether i'm using Garage Band or Felttip.com's Sound Studio.

has anyone else encountered this particular issue?

is anyone aware of a work-around?

(i'm considering griffin's usb-audio hub but wanted to ask the mac music forum before i spend good money...)

http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/...s/usbaudio_hub/

any thoughts would be greatly appreciated...

dy62c,

What has changed in your set up since the problem has come about. Is this your first time with the iMic?

Next, are you using a mixer? If so, is the iMic leading to the same mixer with the audio in and out of the iMic?

I had the same problem with my iMac and the mixer. I had to make the headphone monitor connected sepereately from the mixer and the iMac's iMic.

it's a tricky work around to explain, so if your set up is with a mixer as I described, then I will attempt to describe my work around.

I have the reverse in iTunes while listening my CDs, a silence every 10 seconds, I've marked it seems linked to hard drives access on my underpowered BW G3 400 (no iMic).

dy32c is the pulse on the mac headphone out too ?

Mixolidean...

thanks for the reply...

it's not my first time with the imic...

i am unaware of what may have changed in my "set up"...

i am using a mackie 24 * 8 mixer (analog)...

i am coming out of the "studio out" and then into the imic...

i am not coming back out of the imic at all...

i have determined that the issue is not isolated to just that mixing board...

i ran a test in another location with a different mixer...

same "pulse" was present...

thanks again.

lepetitmartien...

yes, when i plug headphones into the audio out jack on the ibook, i can hear the pulse...

thanks.

I don't think the Griffin hub will solve that problem if you are now using a usb port on your Mac.

i've also got an imic and haven't had any issues with it yet....
but i keep hearing from a bunch of people that those little guys just go bad after a while.
i really want to invest in am m-audio firewire interface. i guess it's just one of those "you get what you pay for" things. at $35 the imic can't be perfect or last forever. smile.gif

fastlanephil and mapmap...

thanks for posting...

i've opted for the m-audio audiophile usb...

hooked it up on friday to mixdown some tracks...

used it for 5-6 hours that day and for about the same amount of time on sunday afternoon...

no issues, no problems, no "pulse"...

(fyi - i found several of them on eBay...)

so... i'm moving on from the imic...

thanks again for the post...

(and thanks to macmusic.org for such a great forum site...)

happy recording!

I have only seen maybe one out of 10 people that were ever happy with the imic... I always try to tell people to save their money for something of better quality unless they just want to mess around cool.gif

Synthetic...

i will be joining you in telling people to save their money on the imic...

in my mind, this is unfortunate...

until this "pulse" issue, i had been pleased with the griffin product. it filled a void created when apple omitted the "audio in" jack from imacs, ibooks, etc...

live and learn...

thanks for moderating...

no problem... I learned a while back that its good idea to come here and get opinions on some of these products before buying... wasted too much $$$ in past on stuff that I eventually turned around and sold on ebay for a loss because it didn't perform like I expected.

however I am proud of myself for picking the Digi001 for my first interface... one of my best choices in equipment I have made and still love it.
