hi,
i have a couple of guitars (classical and a fender strat), a yamaha p200 digital piano, and G4 TiBook (technically it belongs to work - but it's mine! ![]() i would like to know what i need to start recording audio to the powerbook. i have the free version of ProTools, but I will consider the Logic Big Box if things go well -- it sounds like it's good value and a lot of people seem to like it. the powerbook doesn't have an 'audio in' so I'm not sure what I actually need to record audio (guitar and mybe vocal). I don't want to waste money buying the wrong things! thanks for your patience and help. mac |

You need to have an audio-interface of some kind.
Unless you have a quality mic you can connect directly to audio inut on "your" G4 TiBook. ( not the best solution ) Digidesign Mbox is usb - and comes with ProTools Lite or Motu 828 MK-II - is firewire and comes with Audiodesk2. ( audiodesk doesnt do MIDI though ) There are lots of other audio-interfaces out there to choose from. You must as a general thing also install drivers to the different audio-interfaces, to make them show up properly in your software and/or system. If you have a Mac with mic or line input you could scrape by, with a simple adapter.
However you with be rather limited in what you could record and do with such a setup. Controlling the signal-levels into your Mac would probably be rather bothersome. Cheers: Dixiechicken -------------------- ==================

There's plenty of audio interfaces available for less than $500. Check out Tascam, M-Audio and Edirol, to name a few. Try scanning through the Audio, MIDI, DSP cards and interfaces forum here too for plenty of suggestions/feedback, etc.
