I have found that the easiest way way for me to set up the drum backings that I need is to utilize the GB drum loops and jam packs. Love it. Now I want to send my loop out to another device (BOSS BR-864) to use as a fast portable practice tool. I would prefer not to export an MP3 which is the only thing I know how to do. Is there another, or better way for me to send the audio out and into my BOSS? My setup is: MOTU 828 and Garageband Help, please! Thank you! R-Man |

You do know that the 828 can send the main out signal to any of the outs? You could run 1/4" balanced cables to the BOSS (if it accepts that) from out chanels 1 and 2 (for example) Chanel 1 left, chanel 2 right.

I know that the 828 has an additional 4 pairs of stereo outs. I do not know how to route the GB tracks to them? In DP/AD the tracks are assignable but I don't believe that is the case with GB. Someone just advised me that in the MOTU Firewire Console I can set the default outs to those other pairs rather than the Main Outs which is where I have always had them set. Is this the method to which you are referring? Thank you VERY much for your input. Russell |

Actually i would use the FireWire CueMix Console to do this. I would use a different buss for this, so that current settings will not be effected.

Sorry for my ignorance but I have never used an alternative bus, but I understand the premise of what you are saying. Could you tell me how to do that in few enough words so as not to be a MAJOR inconvenience to you? Thank You, Russell |

No problem. In the CueMix console window, at the bottom you will notice that there are 4 bus tabs. Lets say you have you CueMix set up just the way you want it, but then comes along a situation where you will have to change things. Just go from bus 1 to bus 2, now you have a fresh window to make a different CueMix setings. This comes in real handy when you have multible studio configurations, but don't want to spend all day tweeking with the CueMix settings.

kaboom... Here's my story sad but true... First I tried the Cuemix bus 2 move as you suggested. When nothing happened I went back to bus 1 just to see if CueMix is even engaged with GB. I suspect it is not. During GB playback through my normal monitors I shut the Cuemix levels down to 0. It did not affect the playback at all. I AM playing through the 828 but is it possible that GB simply does not route through CueMix and instead has a default that cannot be altered? In response to someone else's suggestion (another board) of changing the default "audio outs" in the Firewre MOTU Console to analog 1 & 2 I tried that as well. Even when the default is reading analog 1 &2 the GB playback is still coming through the orig monitors (Main Outs). I am sorry to be such a newb and feel like I have probably exhausted your kind-hearted gererosity. I am grateful for your efforts. It is quite likely I am missing something very fundamental. Thanks Russell |

So, I finally just unhooked my mains and ran a set of cables into my BOSS. Worked like a charm. Until I am better schooled in the more sophistocated methods of audio routing I will regress back to the tried and true... unhook the old and hook up the new! Thanks all! Russell |

I tried to run some sound out and also had no luck with Garageband, or AudioDesk 2 for that matter. The outs (using chanels 1 & 2) did work when using Itunes. Kinda strange... The manual mumbles something about using chanels 7 & 8 as sends for outboard effects, ect. That could be the trick, I would give it a go, but that would be too difficult to do. At anyrate, when ever I need another out (other than the mains) I use the headphone jack.
