I'd like to take the question a bit further, I have a PC with Acid, Sonar Pro, Reason and Recycle. This lets me do pretty much any type of project i want to do from my house. I just bought a used Lamp-style G4 Imac. I know that Reason and Recycle will run on the Mac, but Acid and Sonar are strictly PC. Is Ableton Live and Mackie Tracktion a similar product? maybe Digital Performer?
Lastly what is the best sampling software for a Mac newbie like me to get into the whole sampling thing. Thanks everyone. |

Apple hired the development team for Acid, right before Sony bought the app.
The results of the hiring are the sountracks and Garage Band apps. The (free download) apple Loop editor will read Acid format and convert it to an Apple Loop. Apple Loops are actually an extension of the Acid technology than can also contain midi data. http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/soundtrackpro/ -------------------- G-Dub

Ableton also has a demo which lets you play around, but you can't save it. It will give you a feel for it anyway.

i recently upgraded from Live 3.3 to Live 5.1. Ableton is by far and away the best sequencing / producing / creative software I have ever come across. The only issue I have is my limitations from my laptop. I hope to be updating to a G5 shortly, which should allow me to mix / sequence / master and record up to 24 tracks. It is completely VST and AU friendly; records any audio or MIDI imput; allows you to create loops from anything; and, string plug ins all along to really tweak and design sounds the way you want-- as well as allow you to automate tempo and fade ins / outs.
If you try the demo, I'm afraid it's kinda like Waves (for me) -- don't play around too much because you'll end up buying it -- which incidently at half the price of Logic, isn't a bad thing. --cheers |
