I hope it doesn't have the software bugs from the old XBase. It would also be a shame if it needed EPROM chips instead of downloadable SYSEX to upgrade it's OS. I sold my Airbase99 after the restarts and software bugs got the better of me...

As the samples are on a flash rom and the Sunsyn had an OS flash rom, I think the chip handling is thing of the past. On the bugs, we'll see. As it's mainly a large evolution of the Xbase, the mains of the OS should be clean from start. Well I hope.
Remember JoMoX is a small company (right now with only Jürgen in) so you can't expect a better service than in big ones, only expect the guys to listen more closely to users, which is a thing Jürgen do like most of the "garage" companies in the analogue market.  (crossing fingers

Totally, though I have to say I quite enjoy my dealings with Analog Synthesis (MOTM) compared to those in previous years with the JoMoX North American distributor/support folks. (I think my unit came direct from Germany to the US and they couldn't find my serial number...)
In general, I prefer fewer products with fewer bugs. The Future-Retro guys for example seem to have better luck in that bug department. In any event, I like what they are trying to do at JoMoX so I'll be interested as always. Just kills me to see awesome ideas that never totally achieve their potential. On the digital front, Nick Bookman - the X-Station programmer at Novation - seems to be providing way more updates than the folks at M-Audio... So I guess the big/small company thing can work both ways. Crossing my fingers too! |
