I have a GF and need to put analog audio from cassette deck in. Is there an adapter that will transfer from tape (or turntable) out to firewire?

yes, but it costs $750. its the MOTU 828 firewire interface, and i just bought one yesterday. its obviously for somebody who's serious about audio, not just a little somethin to pick up for fun. you can find some crappy usb interface for a couple hundred tho.
