I am planning to buy Logic Pro and an audio/MIDI interface.

Logic Pro goes for about $1000.
Emagic's A62m sells for about $300.
In total, I would need to spend about $1300 for Logic Pro and the interface together.

However, Emagic's Logic Gold Production Kit, which sells for about $800 seems to still be available. That includes both Logic Gold 5 and the A62m sound card.
Then, the Logic 5 to Logic 6 Pro Upgrade sells for about $200, so that's a total of $1000 with the audio/MIDI card!
In other words, I would save $300 that way and I would get the same products.

Question is, am I right with this plan? Will this actually work?
Will the Logic Pro upgrade above actually install on top of Logic Gold 5 which I got from the Production Kit?
Of course, this all assumes that the Production Kit can still be bought.

Your advice will be most appreciated!
Thanks,
Rafi

Hi

The authorizations for emagic products is stored in the XSkey. When you buy the upgrade, you get a new version which installs beside the already installed one. You can even continue to use the old one (but who would?). I upgraded from Logic Audio (Big Box) and had no problem.

As to the A62m, please bear in mind that this interface does not provide microphone preamps and level controls. I features only line-level inputs. So if you want to mic, you have to have a microphone preamp.
