I have been very interested in getting involved in the world of mixing and sound editing. However I have no experience whatsoever with any instruments or software of any kind. What is the best way of getting started in this area? I currently have a 800 G3 iBook with Garageband. I didn't want to get into any more expensive equipment until I was sure I enjoyed creating the music. Also if I do become interested in this area, what would be the best setup to work from? I'm considering a G5 dual 2Ghz if needed. What are your thoughts and ideas about this?

Thank you Dixie for your help... I have downloaded Reason 2.5 demo and will try to see what I can do with it in my free time. The program itself is a bit overwhelming for a beginner but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it in time. The main concerns that i have are that I need to learn the basics of music in general, and then learn how to apply that knowledge to HW or SW use. Was hoping there was was a guide to help learn which device performs which function. Any ideas?
