Need some direction....

I run a G4 with OS 10.2.8. I have a MT4 Midi transmitter and a Casio CTK-601 General Midi device. I would like to play and record music on my G4 via this midi interface and wondered if there is any freeware software out there that would allow me to do this. Understanding that eventually I would like to invest in more professional software.
I am a self employed videographer and would eventually like to record my own music to put to video work.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Check out the software (Soft) section here at macmusic - I'm sure it mentions free music apps available. Saying that, most things worth having on OS X cost at least a few dollars.

It also depends on what kind of music you want to make and whether recording live audio is important (vocals, guitars etc). The more you can tell us, the more tailored any advice can be. You can get anything from totally "out there" build-your-own-synth packages to all-in-one, dead-easy virtual studio set-ups. Real sounds; synthetic sounds - it's all possible.

As an aside, just the very mention of making music with 10.2.8 makes my blood run cold - my update caused me endless headaches, audio dropouts, Midi glitches etc. It got unworkable, so I had to dump everything and reinstall 10.2 from scratch. I am now staying at 10.2.6 until I make the leap to Panther.

Just a friendly warning! biggrin.gif
