"With any computer, there is a limited amount of Firewire bandwidth, and on your computer, you will find that the Firewire 400 and 800 ports are on the same Firewire bus. As such, you may find problems running both the hard drive and a Saffire to their full potential simultaneously. It is possible to compensate for this with higher buffer sizes, although that brings with it higher latency. The best solution would be to buy a PCI expansion card for your Saffire, to run it and the hard disk on individual Firewire buses. We recommend Firewire 400 only cards with either a Texas Instruments or a VIA chipset, from a known brand manufacturer such as Belkin, Lacie or SIIG. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance. |
