Good afternoon all, I am having some trouble opening logic (6.4.1) on my G4 POWERBOOK. When I try to open logic I get the "Logic quit unexpectedly" Error msg and logic quits before it even opens. I have recently installed Rob Pappins "Blue" AU. Would this be the issue?

I remember I had the same problem when upgraded from panther to tiger but resolved this by doing an archive install.

Hi, Ryanie!

The key phrase in your Mac tech support experience is:

"When I first got Logic. . ."

There is a brief window of opportunity when you first purchase Apple software in which they will assist you with software problems. Once this short time period is up, you can forget about any decent help from Apple Tech Support without paying yet another fee, even if you buy the hardware Apple Protection Plan.

I've already told this story in other forums on this site, but this past year I bought a G5 Quad, anticipating an incredible jump in Logic Pro's performance. The sad part of the story is that I was blindsided by the fact that Logic, being a 32-bit program, actually runs slower and less reliably on this machine than it does on my G4 1.33GHz laptop which is four years old. This is a combination hardware/software issue which Apple provides no concession and no sympathy for, even though it is their fault.

I have called Apple tech support since July of last year trying to find some help with this issue, and every question I have asked regarding this problem has been ignored, deflected and redirected to a marketing pitch along these lines (I have dramatized the dialogue):

ME: "This is a combination hardware/software issue because your 32-bit app does not recognize all the power in my G5 Quad."
APPLE: "Sir, for a mere paltry sum, we will be happy to set you up with an expert who will gladly help you resolve your issue."
ME: "Well, I've already paid a sum for the Apple Protection Plan, which covers hardware, so can someone help me without me having to pay another fee?"
APPLE: "Sir, you are not having a hardware issue. You are having a software issue. Now, what credit card would you like to use?"
ME: "I do not wish to use a credit card, sir. I wish to speak to someone who can explain to me why this so-called monster machine of a G5 Quad will barely run two tracks in Logic without slow disc errors and outright crashes."
APPLE: "Yes, sir. This is a software issue that we can quickly resolve if I can just get your credit card informa. . ."

Anyway, you get the idea. When it comes to Apple software, you're on your own, and that's where this awesome forum comes in.

I know this sounds bitter, but Apple tech support is a joke. No offense to you, Ryanie smile.gif I've just got a really bad taste in my mouth after this past year.
