Hey Guys!
I'm about to spend 17000 Euro on a DAW, and I'm having trouble deciding what to buy. I want reliability and a rig that's gonna last me a long time. The Tibook is cool and portability is sexy and all that, but is it powerful and stable enough for making a record at home? Is a firewire hd capable of handling 24-32 tracks of audio? Does Logic 5 running under OS X make use of the dual processor system? Thanks, Schack |

I've noticed a lot of people are grumbling that the new dual G4s are very noisy (ie the fan). People who bought the new duals have returned them for a dual G4 from the previous range, the Quicksilver. This fact might explain why some stockists are suddenly running out of Quicksilvers where a few weeks ago they were desparate to shift old stock.
Also, MacUser magazine (go to www.macuser.co.uk to read the review in full) reckoned the new dual 1GHz was not worth the money over the new dual 867 - the performance boost was minimal in their tests. They had not tried a 1.25, but hoped for better things from that. Maybe a dual 867 would be enough - at least then you've saved the money to cover the cost of an Apple 17" display. Just thought this might be worth knowing, Schack. Enjoy your new DAW, whatever you buy - I'm sure you will! |
