I'm thinking of buying a Mac Mini to run Digital Performer 4 with Mach 5 in OSX. I need to be able to run up to 30 tracks of audio and a full orchestra's worth of midi. Has anybody tried this Will it work?

Don't mean to rain on the parade, but i doubt it.
Mach Five on a G4, usually brings the G4 to its knees, especially on DP 4.12, now on 4.5 maybe some improvement. You are not going to get 30 tracks of audio on your Mini Mac in DP 4x, much less be able to use Mach Five. My estimation is 20 tracks of audio and midi tracks should be fine (low overhaed for Midi) but as soon as you add Mach Five, slows ville. Mac Mini also uses a 4200 rpm drive, so this is not good either. jk |
