Is it possible to blow a firewire port? if so what is the result?

unplug EVERYTHING
open the mac remove the lithium battery (be careful with this) locate near it the reset button press it 20 seconds put everything back in place If I remember well (can't find the exact thread for the reset of port to be sure, here it's the motherboard reset) Now, you CAN fry a Firewire 400 port. Just plug in your cable in reverse and he's done and there's no cure, the chip is fried.
