Uad-1 Or Tc Works, Which one to choose? Options

Je travail encore avec un vieux G3 333Mhz et j'envisage d'achetter une carte PCI UAD-1 ou TC works pour avoir plus d'effets disponibles pour mixer. J'hesite entre les deux. Laquelle choisir? Y a t'il des utilisateurs parmis vous?

anyway, the answer is, the uad1 gives much more power and classic quality, the powercore provides many less plugs but allows third party developers to write for it!

Thanks damann for the advice, that was really fast! (I am bilingual and had not realised that this was an english forum.) Have you had a chance to compare the quality of the two effects cards?

i have a uad1 and have to say that as an ex protools owner who still uses other peoples pt rigs, the uad1 definitely sounds BETTER.
i've used the powercore, the only thing about it that i liked was the sony oxford eq, but this has to be bought quite expensively as an addition to the card! the main problem i have with the powercore is the fact that it only manages about a quarter of the power that can easily be expected from the uad1!
the uad1 is made by universal audio who undeniably make very special, classic sounding equipment. check their website, uaudio.com for their comparisons with some very famous competitors. i recommend you spend as much time as possible reading their spec comparisons etc.

I Love my UAD-1....and had done quite a bit of comparison shopping before I got it.
Just don't like the latency so it doesn't make for a good monitoring tool for live inputs. But the sound quality is second-to-none...

i should have mentioned the latency issue with BOTH of these cards!
even though logic now includes an integral delay compensator for these cards, it's, unfortunately, not great.
i did mention this issue in these forums many months ago and it remains an issue!!!

latency is an issue here edward, why not try it before buying.
both cards have a latency equal to your buffer setting per plugin instance, they use a delay compensator to work around this, it's a pain in the a*$e.
you should check out the thread on this site that i started a few months ago.

good point, although this is, of course, a fairly recent situation.
i presume you use logic, i'm not aware of this being the case with any other sequencers.
i feel guilty at the moment though, i think edward has gone off to buy a uad1 without reading the posts concerning latency.
i should mention here that the latest soft update for uad1, v2.3 is currently downloadable from the ua website, it fixes lots of "unpublished" problems.
i should also mention that i've been posting in the mackie/uad1 forum for news of some kind of audiounits future for the card. the silence is deafening!!!

I have not yet bought the UAD-1!

I contacted Mackie asking about the latency problem, but have not yet heard back from them

I read all the macmusic chats concerning this card and am now left wondering...
1...You (Damann) seem to get around the latency problem and enjoy the card, how do you use it?
2...Can DP remember the UAD-1 settings and can they be automated?

yes i use logic, but cubase also offers automatic delay compensation on inserts. i dont know if digital performer has it.

afaik audiounits will be supported by the uad. i think i read it on uaudio.com.

yes i got the newest driver 2.3 and im very hapy about it for it now supports dual processor systems on mac.

Nope, IME, DP has no AUTOMATIC delay compensation, but comes with a predefined session to tune the delay and set it in DP once for all (a simple MIDI click to record back in DP, then see the "latency" and adjust the timing correspondlingly in Audio prefs).
Correct me if i'm wrong, please.

No it's not, but you'll have to set this in your forum user's preference panel (according to YOUR location), don't know the name in english, sorry. It's not set automatically at subscription.
