Tell everyone what song you're listening to. It's a great way to share your music with others and get an idea of what others listen to, find new music. This is absolutely not for the purpose of spam. Don't double-post or put stuff like, "Not listening to anything right now." Try to give a bit of background on the artist/song you specify, too. Keep discussion going while you're posting your current song playing.

I'm listening to "French Connection" by Simon Stinger, becuase I just downloaded it from iTunes. Although I am only about a minute into it, it sounds catchy. It also sounds like it came straight from 1983. I think Apple's new free track of the week is a great idea; it exposes people to a lot of music that they wouldn't otherwise be exposed (me, for one), and sources say that they have sold a lot more songs since they started having free songs last week, I guess people are coming for the free tracks and staying to buy more tracks. Everybody wins. Including the artists who are getting heard only because Apple gave away one of their songs, letting people hear them and buy more of their music (possibly).

I'm listening to "Black Hole Sun" by Soundgarden, from their album "Superunknown." This is an incredible song, it is hard rock and melodic at the same time. i honestly believe that Nirvana did not exist, Soundgarden would have been the king of grundge/metal, etc.
this sounds like a fun topic, i could get some of the songs the members of macmusic are mentioning. korektphool |

Listening to -- "Fell On Black Days" :: Soundgarden :: Superunknown
I agree with you (^^^ up there ^^^), Soundgarden is one awesome band. If you liked Rage Against The Machine at all (another of my favorite bands), I take it you like Audioslave? They're a bit different, but I still love the sounds. -------------------- I can't wash you off my skin.

re scat question: Most good instrumentalists can scat really well while they're playing, in fact they seem to have trouble playing without. I believe recording engineers used to despair of Earl Hines or Oscar Peterson's 'vocals'.
There used to be a few amazing scat vocalese groups around, a few of them French, the terrific 'double six' spring to mind, plus a couple of contemporary bands, whose names escape me. Lambert Hendrix and Ross were probably the most celebrated practitioners...apart from Ella of course. re Teen Town: Ah, the immortal Jaco Pastorius; what a player eh? Tragic end though. At the moment I'm listening to Jan Hammer's '76ish album 'The first 7 days' . Wonderfully expressive synth solos, surprisingly quite gentle in parts though, with less of the manic. frenetic, slightly exhausting energy of the Mahavishnu Orchestra all trying to outdo one another. |

The Album I had on my iPod this morning was London Calling by the clash. Specifically the last song I heard before getting out of the car was Spanish Bombs. It's been in my head alllllll day...

There's an unsigned band in Illinois named Avidus.
I helped them lay down a bunch of tracks. The lead singer is a really impressive lyricist. Check them out http://www.avidusband.com Scott |

I´m listening to The Postal Service - Such Great Heights. It´s a band I´d never heard of until my brother shoved them into my computer, and they are great!
A blend of low-key electronic music that sounds vaguely like my fellow Icelanders Múm and british indie-style vocals. Human and electronic at the same time. Check it out. |

2 minutes before I saw this post iTunes started playing "Orange" by The Art of Trance.
By the time I finished reading everybodys posts it had started "Vicious Circles" by Poltergeist (Union Jack remix). Both of these tracks are from Platipus Records "Ultimate Dream Collection" By the way Jaysee I like that particular Jan Hammer album alot. But check out the performance of "Earth in Search of a Sun" from the Live Jeff Beck album (name escapes me now) when Hammer toured with him it's great! Thanks Living Clash. This is interesting. I've listened to all the suggested songs except some that itunes shop doesn't sell.
I'd forgotten I liked Jeff Beck ![]() In looking I found others I didn't know or had forgotten Listening to Monk/The Shepherd by Bobby MacFerrin on the Beyond Words Album. I'm a real fan of Bobby MacFerrin (scat) although this isn't the most interesting song. Oops its switched to Sarah Bettens Radio at 128kb/s Always the same singer/guitar but its pleasant from time to time. http://www.live365.com/play/309876?SaneID=...0my4a6&pid=1110 Oh, its just short clips of songs at the moment. Zap. Now Messe à Quatre Choeurs by Charpentier - Ex Cathedra Choir. Very good recording. I've sung it in concert but a quite boring to listen to (I've now deselected it). Now its gone back to Bobby MacFerrin - El Brujo on the Voice album. You probably know Blackbird (Beatles song) - just his voice - live concert. If you don't know it, and like the voice an an instrument, check out The Voice album. Flamenco now - yeah -------------------- Without shit, we wouldn't be here ;)

korektphool, Living Clash;
I too love Black Hole Sun. I have to tell you one of the best cover tunes I have ever heard is Black Hole Sun being done by none other than Steve Lawrence & Edie Gorme. I kid you not they did it straight & with serious respect (not like Pat Boone covering Ozzy & Sabbath). It's on a various artists collection called "Lounge-A-Palooza". You really should check it out. By the way at the moment I'm listening to "Long Walk Back to San Antone" by Junior Brown, a guy with a great baritone voice who plays a custom instrument he calls a guit steel, which is a double necked combination of a lap steel & guitar. He plays everything from Dick Dale & the Ventures to Johnny Cash & Jimmy Hendrix, not to mention his own often tounge in cheek traditional country tunes. ![]() -------------------- AZ Mills

Hey Presto,
I guess I thought Laurel would have been on itunes.. CD baby usually links downloads to itunes, but I guess it is actually done by the artists request. Her 2 albums can be found here and here. There are 2 minute samples of many tunes... well worth checking out. It is kinda new folkish... Like I said, I'm hooked.. Probably look like a idiot crusing around the Phoenix Arizona area with her cranked on the car stereo! BTW, CD Baby is a great place to find indie artists of all kinds, as well as being a great place to sell music.. both CDs (on CD Baby), and downloads on itunes... and actually get payed! It's kinda cool seeing many folks listening to alot of the same stuff I do. Maybe the mac thing goes deeper than just a choice of computers ![]() This post has been edited by kaboombahchuck: Sat 2 Oct 2004, 13:36 -------------------- kaboombahchuck
