First you need a small USB midi interface with one in one out to connect the keyboard to the mac for sequencing be aware that your iMac is USB and the powerbook ADB/serial, you can use on both a Serial MIDI interface, but you'll need a USB/serial adaptor for use with the iMac. On your Imac you must have an audio in, it's not top of the range converters, but for fiddling it's ok so you have audio in to treat Audio and have some midi sequencing you can't beat the price of ProTools Free, it's free… On this, and the other issues, beside "fiddling" is rather a large question search on the site and in this very forum, there should be already the answers happy reading
