Is plugging a USB cable in such hard work?? There is no way to get around the COPY PROTECTION of using the hardware interface. Get over it. If you already have the mBox then you've got nothing to worry about but if you haven't then stop complaining and go use something that doesn't require a hardware interface.
Pro Tools is NOT the be all and end all solution to music making, in fact in some areas it barely scratches the surface. If you look into some other applications then you may be pleasantly surprised. Some don't even impose a track limit!!
If you need 32 tracks BUY an MBox, USE an MBox or CHOOSE another system. End of story! bottom line! Game over!

Hello Cats!
Not really any help to your question. Sorry. Maybe someone can help.
I have installed 'Pro Tools Free' on my iMac G3 (350Mhz) and I keep getting the message 'not enough memory for DAE'. Can anyone advise how I can get PT Free to work. I know my iMac is probably a bit old but I want to try to use PT Free to see if it is what I need.
Thanks in advance.
Tim
