Korg also abandoned OASYS-PCI card users. No OASYS drivers will be written for Mac OS X or for Windows XP.

According to Korg, it doesn't make economic sense for them to write two different drivers for a user base of just over 2,000. Even though many of those 2,000 users paid the full list price for their OASYS (circa $2,500) as opposed to the end-of-line blowout price (from $800 down to $250).

Rationally, I can understand that it makes economic sense, but it certainly doesn't leave you with a nice warm fuzzy feeling towards Korg, does it?

So in order to keep on using the OASYS (which is an incredible machine), you have to dedicate a standalone Mac or Windows 95/98 box to it.

For this reason, I will not be buying any more computer-centric products from Korg (like the Legacy Collection, much as I'd love to have it) because I simply can't trust them to support it into the future.

Of course, Roland are no better. They also abandoned VP-9000 users who want to use the V-Producer and V-Translator software in Mac OS X or Windows XP. Version 2 of this software (which will run on these operating systems) will only work with the Roland VariOS VariPhrase spinoff.

I put it down to moronic accountants who are incapable of seeing a bottom line in customer goodwill, and both cases are superb examples of how not to run a company.

It is, indeed, all about money...

That's one of the reasons why I'm such a hardware synth mojo… Funny how small synth makers like Clavia in the end listen customers way better (we have 2 working solutions for the nord modular G1, and Clavia understood very fast it needed an OS X G2 editor porting and did it).

Just don't buy synths from a company that didn't care about your needs to be as comfortable with your synth as possible. tongue.gif angry.gif
