Hi everyone,

I'm new on the forum, and I'm coming as I can't find any explanation on internet (maybe I'm noob smile.gif )
I've got a Piano Yamaha Motif-6 and iMac with Garage Band.

I'ld like to be abble to record my motif-6 on Garage Band but I can't find any way to do it. No matter what I try, my iMac doesn't seems to receive any sound from the Motif-6.

I've connected the motif-6 to my iMac on their respective USB port.

If someone know what should I do to be abble reccord my-self on my iMac, I'ld be glad.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I don't think GarageBand will playback MIDI to external synths. You will need a program like Metro SE or equivalent MIDI sequencing program. You may also need a USB MIDI interface.

Thanks a lot for all your advices. My problem was a driver problem actually. Once I found the good drivers, I was ablle to manage the Garage band sound from my motif-6.

Could you explaining me a bit more what's a MIDI sequencing program ? Is is something that would by-pass Garage Band or something additive ? Do you know one that could be free ?

You're talking about a USB MIDI interface, my motif is connected to my iMac by USB, is that alright ?

First - the most basic question is - are you trying to record MIDI data or audio? Both can travel on USB, but you need to know what type of track you're on. GBand will show MIDI data as a piano roll type graphic and audio data as a sound wave. I can't really give you more info without knowing what type of recording you're trying to make.

Actually I'm would like to reccord MIDI. But if I can't sounds instrument would be alright to.

Based on an other advice I add on an other forum, I've try to install Midio to reccord MIDI sounds. Do you know it well ? With it I was abble to reccord MIDI sounds, but unfortunaly only once at time. I didn't know how to put two differents sounds. Do you know why ?

When I use Midio, the sounds doesn't wome up from my iMac anymore but directly from my Motif-6. So if I select an other sound on my Motif-6 it change the sounds. I don't know I can save it saying this pist if for the piano and this one for the guitar. You see my problem ?

Thanks a lot for trying to help me. I really appreciate that.

You are correct -- there is no import or export MIDI feature in Garageband. I went through this same thing months ago with a client of mine that brought me there own stuff in garageband. Called Apple, and made the suggestion that they incorporate that into their next update -- EVERYONE should do so
-- if nothing changes, nothing changes . . .

...but if you have Logic, you can open your GarageBand project in there and have full control of MIDI import/export plus all the extra finesse and precision of the program. I love GB for ease of use, but sometimes you just need that little extra.
