Hello all, I recently purchased the Mbox 2 which came with the ProTools LE software disk. On my Mac, I have both ProTools LE and Logic Express 8. I was told it's best to record into Logic and then do most of my mastering in ProTools. The Mbox works instantly with ProTools but I was wondering if anyone could walk me through how I get Logic to read and record through the MBox? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Ok, I went into the Logic preferences and saw that I could change the input to the Mbox. Now, I can hear the guitar and it's obviously being picked up by Logic through the Mbox, but when I hit record the tracking bar starts moving and I can hear the metronome, but no actual recording appears. As though I just hit the space bar to start playing it without having recorded anything. Any ideas?

Dear ntrprts... I have seen more Posts with problems regarding The Mbox than all "Tech Problems" combined... To hear that the Mbox 2, obviously NEW has continued the tradition...

On another note I think your Pro Tools Logic 8 remark is pretty accurate "record into Logic and then do most of my mastering in ProTools"

You have the best of both Music Software... However, the Mbox.... Too bad about that... My advice "Get Professional Gear ONLY. Especially Hardware. It will be interesting to see how long this Mbox 2 issue lasts. Good Luck ntrprts.

ntrprts,

Have you got the track 'Armed' for recording? there's a little red button with an R in it on each track in the logic mixer and arrange window; when you click that logic should prompt you with a dialog box asking you to choose a location to record to. Also on each track there is an input and output dropdown; you will need to select your source in the input; and the tracks you wish to monitor the recording with on the output.

The MBOX IS notorious for being finicky when not using it solely with protools unfortunately, but before we write it off as a hardware problem, see if it is setup properly. after buying the MBOX you probably aren't going to rush off and buy another PRO interface, although I would recommend you DO as soon as you can

hope this helps

Cheers

so if your mbox is getting recognised by logic, there is no need, but when i had that trouble, i had to download the latest version of core audio driver from digidesign. i am having digi 002 rack. after you have installed that coreaudio driver, the hardware appears in the audio devices list, inside logic's audio preferences....

this is the link for downloading core audio drivers, for intel macs

about the recording, did you check the track inputs and all? if nothing gets recorded, the possible reason could be that your input is routed to somewhere else and the input of the record enabled track is different.

Hey there, thanks for the reply. Yeah, I'm hearing more and more that the Mbox may not have been the best choice. Anyway, my next question is, Logic seems to be picking up the input from my guitar through the Mbox (as in the sound bars go up and down when I play the guitar), and I've "armed" the track by making sure the "R" button is red, but it just doesn't show a recording...the track bar only moves. Any ideas?

Aloha!! on Logic Pro 7 to record on a Audio track ,you have to Set Audio Record Path, that is on the main Logic top menu>Audio>set recording path , a window will open all you have to do is chose the length time ,15 min is the default cool.gif

I don't see a direct "Audio" drop down window. I did find "audio" under something else but nothing that implied I could change the recording path. Maybe because this is Logic "Express?"
