Hi all! to make it short, i've been in bands for more than 10 years now and have always wrote my own lyrics. Now people from other bands want to buy me some.

How much should i charge? is there any normal rate there?

I'm thinking of a per song fee with no real hopes to see the face of royalties here...

thanks all!

You could be consider like an author... cool.gif

It all depends on which protection system you want to be under… And it goes from the full copyright protection there must be in Canada, to Creative Commons (and there's many different licences you can give), to a simple full cession.

If you are the author of the whole lyrics, you should expect a 50% of the royalties....
But if you want something in advance, the other half must be really in need or your name is Bernie Taupin, for instance...Jokes apart, You should expect any revenues, after the song is published, recorded, braodcasted.
, etc. And if you are member of one of the collecting organizations (BMI, ASCAP; SESAC, etc)then you will cash them in the future...
Hope this will be useful

(Sorry if I am loosing some of the prolegomenon.)

tx all!

this sort of help but as I said, I have no real hopes to see the face of royalties since these bands have mostly no future. perhaps I underestimate em but I think they have not enough guts to make the necessary efforts to go far.

So that's why I'd rather sell em lyrics and wish em good luck...

have a nice day people!

I think it is per song...but for me if you have a band and you can composed a song...you better have it yours...copywriter it...so that no one would get it...and sing it...but we know that it will take a time to do that...
