Please help if possible.

I'm new to this field but am trying to use a single turntable to copy music to an appropriate format on G4 mac, and then when I've copied enough tracks, to mix them with a program and burn the finished product to cd, much like what one would use a standard mixer and two decks for. What program would you recommend for this, given that I'm after good enough quality to reproduce onto cd format?

Enter "audio" into their search box, and you will get several pages of programs related to audio, several of them being very capable freeware or shareware programs for the simple type of stereo recording you're describing.

Some of the shareware ones you might want to look at are

I especially recommend that you pick up Audio Hijack 1.0, which allows you to add Digital Signal Processing after the fact, and is just a fun audio program.

Then there is Spark ME, which is a free version of TC|Works Spark program, a very professional package that, with all of their effects plug-ins, runs up in the many hundreds of dollars. I believe the free version will do what you need, though. It's here:

You might want to look at their LE version and/or up if you're looking to invest some money in a good audio program.

But in that case, I recommend that you also take a look at Peak, a very well-respected program that's won many awards for recording and editing audio. (It'll be in the VersionTracker list.)

P.S. You didn't say anything about how you're going to get the audio from the turntable into the Mac, which is its own consideration. Do you have an audio interface, or do you have a G4 that has audio inputs on the back?
