Mr. Jason E. Lectric
this may be a very elementary question for most mac users.

is there any way to sort every file, program, whatever according to size, to see what things are taking up the most room on my hard drive. i know i can go through and look at every file and see what the size is, but that would take a VERY long time. i'm sure there's got to be an easy solution

This one couldn't be easier.

Double click on the volume you need to check. Make sure the resulting window is in "List" view (the 3 parallel lines button, top right). Click in the "Cog" button and select "Show View Options". Tick the "Size" and "Calculate all sizes" boxes. In your Finder window click on the Size tab. A downwards pointing arrow will give you largest first, an upwards one smallest first.

Okay, maybe it could be easier, or at least easier to describe with less of "these" and fragmented sentences.

Does anyone think I use "these" too much?

nah Jim. I like "them"...

especially the good info contained in, around and between 'em.

Go to Versiontracker.com and look for a program called WhatSize

This does what you want, across multiple folders.

Thanks
