They are rare and desirable. Now on the exact figure of SH-3 made, I haven't been able to find it but it sure is no zillions as there was a redesign quickly after the launch of it (see below).
Personally either I'd ask for the price/sell it on the
Analogue Heaven mailing list, or would go ebay with a $300+ reserve from what I've seen ($300 is bottom level price, I could find the current reasonable one); My preference would be for AH where most people are decent.
Also you can enter it at the
VEMIA auction hosted by Peter Forest. It's a great place for rarities and Peter can be of help (packing, sale strategy, payment safety as he does the middleman for trusty transactions). In his books A-z to analogue synth, he dismiss the 40 number and extravagant prices are being scams to inflate the price. You can trust Peter on this. The VEMIA is in preparation now and bids have started.
