just wondering if anyone has figured out how to route audio into soundtrack for recording. i'm using motu 828 mk 2 and though soundtrack recognizes it as an input, no sound comes through. i thought maybe suind soundflower i could route the audio from DP 4 into soundtrack, but again with no success. any help would be appreciated. so far te only way i've been ablet orecord into soundtrack is through my macs littel audio in miniplug.

Be sure to set your 828 to 44.1 Kz 16 bit. This may solve the problem.

mcrein,

How are you attempting to monitor the sound?

Through the MOTU? or through your computer?

You need to setup the monitoring properly in the preferences window?

Also, you won't hear any monitoring unless you are in RECORD mode, meaning you
clicked the RECORD button and the RECORD window shows up monitoring your inputs.
In this window, I believe you can also turn the monitoring on and off.

If you have already done these things properly, then you might have some other issues...

Might help also to verify that you have the latest Firewire driver for your MOTU 828 MKII

Maybe,

I am confused, but which of the following are you trying to accomplish?

A - to record into Soundtrack using your MOTU 828 MKII?

or

B - to route audio from another DAW (digital audio workstation) in Soundtrack?

If it is PROBLEM A that you are having trouble with, my first couple of posts should have
shown you where to look, but if you are still having trouble with PROBLEM A then you have
a software driver or hardware problem.

If it is PROBLEM B that you are talking about then I don't have an answer, because
I don't think you can route audio from another DAW into soundtrack. I use Live 3, Reason, and DP 4.
All of these apps can route audio to each other in some way, shape, or form.

I also have Soundtrack on the same machine, but it doesn't allow me route audio in or out of it.

no need for confusion S.

i am trying to do A. But no success. I tried using option B to accomplish A, but again no success. i opened a track in DP (which works) and tried to route the audio from DP (where i definitely have a signal) into Soundtrack. there are some apps out there that allow you to route audio inside OS X between apps, namely soundflower, jack, and detour. But so far, i haven't been successful. (though i was able to route audio from iTuunes into soundtrack recording with soundflower) the 828 records flawlessly into DP 4 so i have no harrdware/software problems i'm aware of. (i have up to date drivers)

are you using the 828 ar another firewire device to record into souundtrack? if so, would you mind describing your setup? maybe i'm missing simething small and stupid!
thanx for all your help.

as an update.

well i'm starting to narrow it down.

after much experimentation i found that it is not a mac/soundtrack problem. i can record into soundtrack using the mic/guitar inputs on the front of the 828 mk 2. in fact when i plug the triton into those inputs, i have signal! however, when i try to record via the analog inputs in the back of the 828 (where my triton is normally plugged in, which incidentally work fine in DP 4.1) , nothing.

it must have somethig to do with the types of inputs. the ones in the front panel of the 828 are equipped with a preamp (17 db) and are high impedance. the ones in the back are balanced line-in and can be adjusted for +4 or -10. all analog inputs front and back have 24 bit 64X oversampling A-D converters. right now they are at -10 and even when i add 6db boost, there's still no signal.

is the signal throught the back panel inputs too low?

it's a mystery i'd like to clear up.

mcrein,

Have you tried playing with your software control panel?

Eight balanced TRS analog ins/outs
24-bit 96kHz analog inputs and outputs on balanced/unbalanced quarter-inch connectors.
Input level can be switched between +4/-10 for each input via software.

If the -10 db pad is on it might hinder recording...
also what type of input are you putting into the back?
It doesn't need to be preamped does it?
mcrein
thanks for your attention Seth.
actually i did try changing the -10db setting to +4. still no verifiable signal in soundtrack. i've plugged the standard stereo outs of the triton into the back of the 828 nanlog ins. works fine in DP 4.1. get plenty of signal. only in soundtrack i get nothing. thoughwhen i plug the triton into the front panel ( as i described above) inputs.

it's got to be a signal issue in the 828.
