i'm not sure if this will help because i'm still using protools 6.9 but here we go.....you must have a midi channel & and a audio channel assigned for virtual guitar in the mix window. hope this helps.

That works, but since you're on version 7, use an Instrument track. Create an instrument track and add VG as an insert in the mix window (or edit window if you show Inserts). If it's RTAS, the window will open. If it's rewire, then it might launch VG or you may have to open it manually. Just make sure PT is opened first if it's Rewire. Choose a patch in VG. Now you can add notes with the pencil tool in the edit window or play them in with a MIDI controller. With the pencil tool, you don't need to arm the track or record. For the MIDI controller, you have to arm the track to record. Make sure you are in the correct root (C1 C2 etc.) for the patch or you won't hear anything (That doesn't always matter. Is VG a sampled guitar player? Than it probably does). You should be able to hear something, especially if you draw it in with the pencil tool and hit play.
