Hello everyone; I'm new here and this is my first posting.
I have been playing with a virtual synthesizer an have been able to complete a few short MIDI files; I don't have a real synthesizer nor a MIDI interface yet. I wonder if there is a way to improve the sound of the MIDI instruments on my "creations", by adding an external sound card to my iMac, since I find QuickTime instruments to be very "basic". I don't know much about this, so am not sure if connecting an USB or FireWire external sound card would be possible to play the files through the card (without an external synth), and back to the iMac for maybe making it into an mp3. Am I dreaming or is this possible? Thanks. wink.gif

The best way to improve midi sounds is to use better virtual instruments. QT instruments are a far cry from the higherquality sounds out there. Even the sounds in Garadge Band are much better than QT.
