hi there, can anyone offer a solution. my fast track does work under tiger. i've checkedthe m-audio site which states the the fast track is class compliant so doesn't need drivers. any ideas??

I have just tried my Fast Track under Tiger and I'm having problems too.

It works recording the microphone, but I cannot record the guitar.

Strangely, when on the System Preferences/Audio screen it shows guitar sound coming in on the Audio Input levels indicator, but neither GarageBand nor Audacity can indicate any sound when the FastTrack device is selected.

Any clues? Is this is the Tiger issue that the M-Audio site talks about?

Can someone with the Fast Track and pre-Tiger confirm that simply plugging a guitar into Fast Track and selecting FastTrack for the audio source of GarageBand works?

I just got my second Fast Track as I could not get ANYTHING to come through on the input with the previous one. Now, my newer one really works. I get audio in as well as audio out on my guitar (with a Dean Markely ceramic pickup) and my Fender mandolin (with a cable plug built in). I also get the microphone, only it works perfectly! My problem is that the sound in is so low for the guitar and mandolin that I can barely hear it until I play it back and only if I turn all volume controls in GarageBand to maximum.

Has anyone heard how to maximinze the volume of the audio-in from the Fast Track so that it is as loud as it ought to be?

So, I guess I ccan say that it really did work for me on my PowerBook G4 12" 1Mghz with Tiger 10.4.2 just by "plugging in and playing" with just a bit of "playing" with the knobs.

Now, you will have to have the knob on the right turned to about 4 o'clock and the second knob turned up all the way.

Now I have been away from the problem for a week I have now found the solution. It does work!

It's obvious when you know. The M-Audio FastTrack is a stereo device offering a single stereo USB audio channel. The mic is placed on the channel 1 and the guitar on channel 2. I was monitoring in mono mode and inadvertantly selecting channel 1. Switching to the stereo/channel 2 mono does the trick.

As to audio levels, I'll try a few recordings to see what I make of them. On first inspection they do look a little low.

i have had a fast track for nearly a year and really dispise it. it is very awkward to use, and im getting a channel signal in logic through only the right channel, and in mono i get nothing at all. even when i did manage to get a stereo recording through the card in cubase, the audio quality wasnt great. im gonna be changing to a focusrite saffire or mbox 2, as im fed up of the stupid wee fasttrack.
