Hello,

I'm using Mac for audio production only for few weeks now, so please forgive me those silly questions smile.gif

Ok, so I've read on this forum that making two accounts on OS X -one for daily stuff and other optimized for music making is very good solution. Well... indeed it works fine, but I have some annoying problems with it too. I'm using Logic Express 7 and every time I open my song all the samples have to be reload again, software cannot save overview as this account doesn't have enough privileges for that. Do I have to change privilages to every folder ? Is there a way to set it globaly ?

Other problem I have is that Logic does mix/export audio to either WAV and AIFF format but neither of them can be played later with Quick Time and system don't know how to open this files. I overcome this problem importing it to Audacity (at least WAV files because Audacity don't recognize Logic's AIFs) I can live with that... but since I do everything on Logic (mixing and mastering too) it takes much more time.

And the last thing is memory in Mac's. I have G4 with 512MB. I don't use a lot of software samplers and much ram consuming applications... so the question is - how expanding ram to 1GB would change my system performance for my use ? Would it change it A LOT ?

I'm a bit affraid of reading what I wrote. Anyway it's a Getting Started Forum, isn't it ? tongue.gif

thanks !

Jean Claude,

Welcome. I'm not sure I can be of much help - but I'll give it a try.

I don't use Logic Express - I use LogicPro - but the fact that you have to reload the sample doesn't sound right - unless someone here at MacMusic can help - I would suggest taking a look at the Logic Forum and getting an answer there.

Logic Express should give you an AIFF file if you 'Bounce' the track rather than 'export'. The Bounce button is on the master mixer channel. There should also be a menu item for it as well.

More memory is always better than less - you will get better/more stable performance with more memory. However - I don't know which Mac you're using - if you use samples etc - a fast hard drive and a secondary hard drive may be of more use.

Yes - uh, I mean no - you can't turn off the password every time you change account - it's a security thing - after all - you're changing accounts - on any computer platform, you don't want to allow that without a password.

Soz.

Good luck and - be all that you can be.

I use Logic Express.

I have to load my samplers every time, so it's default normal I guess.

Looks like Phil answered your other questions. I don't think you'll need much more RAM. 512 should be fine if you're not using many software instruments. It depends on all your system specs.

can't you give the 2nd account full admin privledges?
Vissequ
You should be able to.
But I believe that all admin accounts require a password.
