I am setting up a pretty rudimentary home recording setup, and wanted to make sure that I was moving in the right direction.

I just got a dual G5 2Ghz tower and was looking to start using Garageband and perhaps move into Logic. I will use it primarily for practice.

I mainly play guitar but was going to get a keyboard to play drums, other instruments, etc.

I am thinking about getting the following:

Evolution MK-449C keyboard

and

M-Audio Audiophile 192 PCI card.

Is this a pretty decent starter setup? Do I need to get something like a Sansamp/Pod or a mixer to record my guitar or can I plug directly in?

Do I need anything else?

Sorry for being such a 'tard. TIA.

Your 2GHz Dual PowerMac is the dream machine for Logic. GarageBand will also run very well on it.

How much RAM do you have? I would personally recommend using 1024 if not more.

Your Keyboard and PCI Card should both serve you very well. You will be able to record MIDI and Audio at very high quality (MIDI's quality obviously doesn't change but Audio does). I've only recorded guitars with a microphone (never directly in), but you should be able to record that well. You don't need a mixer, that's only if you're recording multiple microphones or devices into one machine.

To answer your question. You don't need anything else.
