Im a little confused, could anyone tell me if there is any real difference between an internal an external dvd-r? other then the obvious.

the external is plug in and go
the internal is a little bit difficult to put into your tower, because you have to remove the front plastic plate of the writer - otherwise the door won't open.
an other issue if you decide to buy a non-apple dvd writer is that eg. idvd only supports apple hardware.
and i guess most external are not apple...
(and you save space on your working place)
