Check out the MXL 990. I got one at Musicians Friend and for $60 I'm blown away. Sure, if you put it next to other mics that cost thousands you'll hear a difference, but I'm really pleased with the sound overall. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/sid=04.../d=tp?q=mxl+990

I think the moral of the story is: there are tons of great mics out there.. Each with a different flavor..
